Global X launches an Asia semiconductor ETF on Nasdaq, highlighting semiconductor stocks, Asian chipmakers, exchange-traded funds, and technology investment

Global X has launched a U.S.-listed Asia Semiconductor exchange-traded fund, offering investors exposure to chip manufacturers and designers across Asia. Announced on October 14, 2026, the Global X Asia Semiconductor ETF trades on Nasdaq under the ticker ACHP and has an inception date of October 13.

The fund targets companies involved in manufacturing semiconductors, developing chip designs, licensing intellectual property and providing specialised software. Its introduction comes as artificial intelligence (AI) is increasing demand for advanced computing hardware, although semiconductor shares have recently faced considerable market volatility.

Key Overview

  • New ETF: ACHP offers U.S.-listed access to Asian semiconductor companies and tracks a dedicated regional index.
  • Market coverage: The index may hold up to 25 businesses across 10 Asian markets, including Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, China and Southeast Asia.
  • Annual fee: The fund charges a 0.50% total expense ratio.
  • Leading holdings: MediaTek, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics led the October 13 holdings disclosure.
  • Main risks: Semiconductor price cycles, geopolitical disruption, currency movements and concentration in technology stocks could affect returns.

How the New Asia Semiconductor ETF Works

ACHP is passively managed and seeks to replicate the performance of the Global X Asia Semiconductor Index before fees and expenses. The fund’s investment framework focuses on two areas: semiconductor manufacturing and the design, intellectual property and software that enable chip production.

Eligible companies must derive a significant share of their revenue from those activities. The index uses a targeted selection of up to 25 companies and undergoes quarterly reconstitution and rebalancing. That makes the product more concentrated than a broad Asian equity fund, while allowing exposure to businesses that may otherwise be difficult for U.S. investors to access directly.

The 0.50% annual expense ratio is a recurring fund cost, separate from any brokerage charges or differences between market prices and the fund’s net asset value.

Which Semiconductor Companies Are Included?

The October 13 portfolio breakdown identified Taiwan’s MediaTek as the largest holding at 12.10%, followed by TSMC at 11.01%, South Korea’s SK Hynix at 10.25% and Samsung Electronics at 9.42%.

Other notable investments included United Microelectronics at 5.19%, Japan’s Renesas Electronics at 4.56%, Nanya Technology at 4.41% and Kioxia Holdings at 4.09%. These figures are a dated snapshot rather than permanent portfolio allocations; weights can change with market prices and fund rebalancing.

The mix spans several parts of the supply chain. TSMC and United Microelectronics manufacture chips designed by customers, MediaTek develops semiconductor designs, and SK Hynix and Samsung are prominent memory-chip producers. This gives ACHP exposure to more than one type of semiconductor business without removing its dependence on the broader chip industry.

Why Asia Matters to Global Chip Production

In research accompanying the launch, the fund manager estimated that Asia accounts for nearly 75% of global semiconductor manufacturing capacity and more than 90% of the most advanced chip production.

The region’s strengths vary by country. Taiwan has a major role in contract manufacturing, South Korea specialises in memory chips, and Japan supplies important semiconductor products, equipment and materials. China also has a growing domestic chip industry. Demand comes not only from AI data centres but also from smartphones, vehicles and industrial equipment.

Global X has positioned ACHP alongside its other specialist technology funds, including products focused on large language models and electronic components. The aim is to offer more precise exposure to different parts of the technology supply chain rather than a single broad technology portfolio.

Market Volatility Creates Risks for New Investors

The launch coincides with a difficult period for technology shares. An October 13 sell-off in Asian chip stocks reflected concerns about rising financing costs and whether heavy AI infrastructure spending would produce sufficient financial returns.

Investors in ACHP face risks associated with chip demand cycles, political tensions, trade restrictions and foreign currencies. As a newly launched ETF, it also has limited operating history, while its market price can trade above or below the underlying portfolio’s net asset value.

The fund provides a straightforward route to a strategically important Asian industry, but its narrow focus means investors remain exposed to sharp swings in semiconductor valuations and the global AI investment cycle.
