New Capital Targets Innovation and Global Expansion
The latest transaction gives AMFresh additional financial backing as it pursues its long-term Strategic Ambition Plan, which focuses on innovation, international growth, organic expansion and selective acquisitions.
According to the investment announcement, the expanded partnership is intended to strengthen AMFresh’s ability to invest across the fresh food sector while creating long-term value.
AMFresh has developed a vertically integrated model spanning genetics and breeding, farming, technology, supply chains and retail partnerships. That structure gives the company the ability to connect the development of new varieties with large-scale production and commercial distribution.
The investment therefore reaches beyond traditional fresh-produce expansion. It backs a business model in which proprietary genetics can be developed, licensed and commercialised through an established global operating network.
AMFresh chief executive Alvaro Muñoz said the agrifood industry is at an “inflection point,” with consumers, retailers and growers demanding greater innovation and stronger sustainability. The company plans to scale its platform and invest in the capabilities and talent required for its next phase of growth.
Bloom Fresh Strengthens the Genetics Platform
Bloom Fresh sits at the centre of the investment strategy. The company was created in 2023 through the combination of Special New Fruit Licensing, known as SNFL, and International Fruit Genetics.
That transaction brought together two established fruit-breeding businesses to create a global breeding company focused on developing and commercialising new varieties, particularly table grapes and cherries.
The platform’s value lies partly in the long development cycle of agricultural genetics. Successful new varieties require extensive breeding, testing and commercial validation before they can be grown and sold at scale. Strong intellectual property portfolios and licensing networks can therefore create long-term relationships with growers across multiple markets.
Bloom Fresh has developed expertise in fruit breeding supported by broad gene banks, which provide the foundation for developing new varieties. The combination of genetics, licensing and commercial reach allows promising varieties to move from breeding programmes into production across global markets.
For AMFresh, this creates a direct link between proprietary innovation and the wider fresh-produce value chain.

Partnership Has Expanded Since the 2019 Investment
Paine Schwartz’s relationship with AMFresh’s genetics operations began in 2019, when the investment firm acquired a 30% interest in SNFL. The original transaction was designed to support the company’s international expansion and strengthen its position in table-grape genetics.
The partnership entered a new phase in 2023. AMFresh, EQT Future and Paine Schwartz completed the combination of SNFL and International Fruit Genetics, creating Bloom Fresh as a larger global fruit-breeding and intellectual property platform.
The latest investment through Food Chain Fund VI extends that relationship into another growth cycle. Paine Schwartz said additional co-investment opportunities will also be available to investors alongside the transaction.
Kevin Schwartz, chief executive of Paine Schwartz, said the firm has invested in agricultural genetics for more than 20 years and views genetics as one of the most critical inputs in agriculture. He described Bloom Fresh as a high-quality global agricultural platform.
Genetics Becomes a Bigger Strategic Asset in Fresh Food
The deal highlights the growing strategic importance of genetics within agriculture and fresh food. New fruit varieties can create value by improving flavour, shelf life, yield, resilience and other characteristics sought by consumers, retailers and growers.
For integrated businesses such as AMFresh, ownership of proprietary genetics can also provide greater influence across the value chain. A successful variety can generate value through breeding intellectual property, grower licensing, farming partnerships and retail distribution.
The new capital gives AMFresh and Bloom Fresh greater capacity to pursue that model internationally. Their next phase will depend on how effectively they can convert breeding innovation into commercially successful varieties while expanding their relationships with growers and retailers.
With Paine Schwartz extending a partnership that has already evolved through multiple transactions, the latest investment positions fruit genetics as a central pillar of AMFresh’s long-term global growth strategy.
