Electric Motorcycles Kenya: Yadea Enters Growing EV Market

Yadea enters Kenya’s growing electric motorcycle market as demand for clean mobility solutions rises
Share

China’s Yadea, the world’s largest electric two-wheeler manufacturer, has officially entered the Kenyan market with a range of new electric motorcycles aimed at boda boda operators, commuters and delivery businesses. The launch marks a significant milestone for electric bikes in Kenya, a sector that is experiencing rapid growth as companies expand battery-swapping networks and scale electric mobility solutions. Yadea unveiled five models at Autoexpo Kenya 2026, signaling its intention to compete in one of Africa’s fastest-growing electric transport markets.

Key Overview

  • Yadea launched operations in Kenya at Autoexpo Kenya 2026
  • Five electric motorcycle models were unveiled
  • KIFA model offers up to 150km range between battery swaps
  • Battery swaps can be completed in about 30 seconds
  • Yadea partnered with Arc Ride to support battery-swapping infrastructure
  • Kenya becomes Yadea’s second East African market after Ethiopia
  • Company has sold more than 48,000 electric motorcycles in Ethiopia

Yadea Expands Into Kenya’s Growing Electric Mobility Market

Chinese electric mobility giant Yadea has entered Kenya with a range of electric two-wheelers, bringing the world’s largest electric motorcycle manufacturer into an increasingly competitive market.

The company officially launched its Kenyan operations during Autoexpo Kenya 2026 in Nairobi, where it showcased five electric motorcycle models designed for commercial transport, commuting and last-mile delivery services.

Kenya becomes Yadea’s second East African market following its expansion into Ethiopia, where the company says it has sold more than 48,000 electric motorcycles over the past three years.

The move comes as Kenya’s electric mobility industry transitions from proving the viability of electric transport to competing on scale, infrastructure coverage and rider adoption.

KIFA Targets Boda Boda and Delivery Operators

At the center of Yadea’s Kenyan launch is the KIFA electric motorcycle, a model specifically developed for commercial transport and logistics applications.

The motorcycle is designed to carry payloads of up to 250 kilograms and is powered by dual removable 72V 30Ah lithium iron phosphate battery packs.

According to the company, the motorcycle can travel up to 150 kilometers between battery swaps, making it suitable for daily commercial use.

A key feature of the model is its battery-swapping capability. Riders can exchange depleted batteries for fully charged units in approximately 30 seconds, significantly reducing downtime compared to conventional charging methods.

The company believes the model will appeal strongly to operators in the rapidly growing electric motorbikes in Kenya market, where uptime and operating costs remain critical factors for riders.

Battery Swapping Becomes Key Competitive Advantage

To support the KIFA rollout, Yadea has partnered with Arc Ride, a Kenyan company that already operates a battery-swapping network within the country.

Battery-swapping infrastructure is becoming a major battleground in Kenya’s electric mobility sector as companies compete to attract riders by offering convenient access to charged batteries.

Industry participants increasingly view battery-swapping networks as essential to accelerating EV adoption, particularly among commercial riders who cannot afford long charging periods during working hours.

Yadea’s decision to integrate with an existing local network allows the company to enter the market with immediate infrastructure support while focusing on vehicle sales and customer acquisition.

Models Target Different Market Segments

Beyond the KIFA, Yadea introduced four additional models expected to serve a range of customer segments.

The company showcased the Keeness, a performance-oriented electric motorcycle, alongside the GT25, GT60 and GT70 models designed for personal commuting and last-mile logistics operations.

The GT70 was specifically highlighted as a solution for food delivery services and urban logistics businesses.

Vehicle pricing is expected to reach approximately $3,000 depending on model specifications.

Rather than establishing its own retail outlets, Yadea plans to distribute motorcycles through local dealership networks.

This approach allows the company to leverage existing market channels while accelerating product availability across the country.

Kenya Emerges as Strategic Growth Market

Yadea’s arrival reflects growing confidence in Kenya’s electric mobility ecosystem.

The company first entered Africa through Morocco in 2023 and says it now has partnerships in more than 20 African countries across the continent.

Founded in 2001, Yadea has grown into the world’s largest electric two-wheeler manufacturer by sales volume. The company operates ten manufacturing facilities globally and serves over 100 million users across more than 100 countries.

John Zhang, Yadea’s East Africa Market Director, described Kenya as a strategic market within the company’s broader regional growth plans.

The expansion comes as governments, businesses and consumers increasingly embrace cleaner transportation alternatives to lower fuel costs, reduce emissions and improve urban mobility.

The growing adoption of electric bikes Kenya solutions is helping transform the country’s boda boda sector while creating new opportunities for fleet operators, delivery companies and mobility startups.

Outlook

Yadea’s entry into Kenya signals a new phase in the country’s electric mobility industry. With five new models, battery-swapping capabilities and a partnership with Arc Ride, the company is positioning itself to compete aggressively in one of Africa’s most promising EV markets.

As competition intensifies and infrastructure expands, the growth of electric motorcycles in Kenya is expected to accelerate, supporting cleaner transportation, lower operating costs and broader adoption of sustainable mobility solutions across the country.
