Britam launches two funds for global Kenyan investors, highlighting investment funds, international markets, wealth management, and Kenyan investors
Share

Britam Asset Managers has launched two new special investment funds designed to give Kenyan investors greater access to international stock markets and diversified investment opportunities.

The October 8, 2026 launch announcement introduced the US dollar-denominated Enhanced Global Equities Special Fund and the Kenyan shilling-denominated Multi Asset Special Fund. Both products received approval from Kenya’s Capital Markets Authority (CMA) in August 2026.

The global equities fund targets international companies operating in sectors such as artificial intelligence, technology, healthcare and energy. Meanwhile, the multi-asset fund combines different investment classes, including domestic and international equities, fixed income, commodities and alternative investments.

The introduction comes as Kenya’s collective investment schemes industry continues expanding, with assets under management reaching KSh948.7 billion in June 2026.

Key Overview

  • Two new investment products: Britam has introduced the USD Enhanced Global Equities Special Fund and the KES Multi Asset Special Fund.
  • Global stock exposure: Investors can gain exposure to major international companies, including Nvidia, Tesla, Microsoft, Apple, Amazon and Alphabet.
  • Multi-asset diversification: The shilling-denominated fund invests across equities, fixed income, commodities and alternative assets.
  • Minimum investment: The Multi Asset Special Fund requires an initial investment of KSh500,000, with additional contributions starting at KSh250,000.
  • Investment period: The Multi Asset Special Fund has a six-month initial lock-in period and targets investors with a three-to-five-year investment horizon.
  • Regulatory approval: Both special funds were approved by Kenya’s capital markets regulator in August 2026.

Enhanced Global Equities Fund Opens Access to International Stocks

The Britam Enhanced Global Equities Special Fund is designed to provide Kenyan investors with exposure to global companies that are shaping major economic and technological developments.

According to the fund launch details, its featured investments include international technology and innovation companies such as Nvidia, Tesla, Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet, Apple, Meta, Netflix and Adobe.

The fund offers exposure to industries including artificial intelligence, cloud computing, semiconductors, digital services and other sectors influencing global economic growth.

Unlike conventional Kenyan equity funds that predominantly invest in domestic and regional stock exchanges, the new product enables investors to participate in international equity markets through a professionally managed portfolio.

Its US dollar denomination also introduces foreign currency exposure, which can influence returns for investors measuring their wealth in Kenyan shillings.

A stronger dollar relative to the shilling can increase the local currency value of investments, while dollar depreciation can reduce it.

However, the fund remains exposed to international stock market volatility, and returns are not guaranteed.

Multi Asset Special Fund Combines Different Investment Classes

Britam’s second offering, the Multi Asset Special Fund, takes a broader investment approach by combining assets with different risk and return characteristics.

The investment strategy incorporates local and global equities, fixed-income securities, commodities and other investment opportunities within a single portfolio.

This approach allows investors to gain exposure to several markets without independently purchasing each asset class.

The fund requires a minimum initial investment of KSh500,000, with subsequent top-ups starting at KSh250,000.

It also has a six-month lock-in period and is intended for investors with a three-to-five-year investment horizon.

Importantly, the fund employs foreign exchange strategies to manage currency exposure and may use leverage to increase investment positions.

While leverage can magnify investment gains when markets perform favourably, it can also amplify losses during market downturns.

Consequently, the product carries risks beyond those typically associated with conventional money market funds and other lower-risk savings products.

Kenya’s Collective Investment Industry Continues Expanding

The launch comes against the backdrop of strong growth in Kenya’s collective investment schemes industry.

According to industry figures released during the launch, collective investment scheme assets under management reached KSh948.7 billion in June 2026, representing 59.1% annual growth.

Britam Asset Managers reported managing more than KSh300 billion in assets, placing it among the country’s five largest asset management firms.

The company also reported managing over KSh55 billion in fixed-income assets as of July 2026.

The expansion of Kenya’s investment fund industry reflects growing demand for professionally managed investment products and broader portfolio diversification.

Special funds provide an additional investment category for investors seeking exposure to strategies that may differ substantially from traditional money market, bond and balanced funds.

The August regulatory approval of Britam’s new products also reflects ongoing efforts to broaden regulated investment choices in Kenya.

What Investors Should Consider Before Investing

Although the two funds expand investment opportunities, their suitability depends on individual financial objectives, investment horizons and tolerance for risk.

The Enhanced Global Equities Special Fund offers exposure to international corporate earnings and potential long-term capital appreciation. However, investors must consider global market volatility, currency fluctuations and portfolio concentration.

The Multi Asset Special Fund provides exposure to several asset classes but introduces additional complexity through its use of foreign exchange strategies and leverage.

Investors should also understand withdrawal restrictions, management fees, potential performance fees and any charges that may apply during the initial lock-in period.

Neither fund should be treated as a capital-guaranteed alternative to conventional savings products.

Before investing, prospective clients should review the approved fund documentation to understand the applicable investment strategy, asset allocation limits, expenses and redemption conditions.

What the Launch Means for Kenyan Investors

The introduction of these funds expands the investment options available to Kenyans seeking exposure beyond domestic financial markets.

The global equities fund offers an avenue for participating in the performance of international companies, while the multi-asset offering combines different investment categories within a single managed portfolio.

Both products represent Britam’s efforts to expand its asset management business while responding to changing investor preferences.

For Kenya’s investment industry, the launch highlights the growing role of globally diversified and actively managed special funds.

Ultimately, investor outcomes will depend on asset performance, management decisions, investment costs, currency movements and the ability to maintain an appropriate long-term investment strategy.
