In the wake of devastating floods wreaking havoc across multiple regions in Kenya, the Ministry of Trade has stepped forward with a resolute pledge to aid businesses and industries grappling with the aftermath. Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano has voiced the government’s commitment to extending assistance to those affected, underscoring the severity of the situation which has claimed lives, ravaged properties, and inflicted profound economic setbacks.

Expressing solidarity with the afflicted, CS Miano assured Kenyans of the government’s unwavering support during these trying times. “Our hearts go out to all those impacted by this catastrophe. The Ministry of Trade stands ready to lend a helping hand to mitigate the hardships faced by businesses and industries,” she affirmed.

To facilitate swift assistance, the Ministry has inaugurated the Karibu Business Support Centres, serving as focal points for collating vital information on affected businesses and dispensing necessary aid. “The Karibu Business Support Centre is now operational, poised to receive and act upon information concerning affected businesses,” CS Miano announced via social media.

This initiative forms part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at bolstering businesses’ resilience against natural disasters, a collaborative effort involving public and private sector stakeholders, development partners, and pertinent organizations. CS Miano emphasized the significance of these partnerships in fortifying businesses against future calamities. “We are actively engaging with key stakeholders to formulate robust strategies that enhance businesses’ capacity to withstand adversities,” she elaborated.

Notable collaborators include the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA), the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM), the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), TradeMark Africa, and the Kenya Revenue Authority, among others. Together, these entities are pooling their expertise and resources to devise proactive measures that not only address the current crisis but also shore up businesses’ resilience for the future.

As Kenya navigates through the aftermath of the devastating floods, the government’s steadfast commitment to supporting affected businesses underscores its unwavering dedication to fostering economic recovery and resilience in the face of adversity. Amidst the challenges posed by natural calamities, the collective efforts of both government and private sector entities serve as a beacon of hope for affected businesses, heralding a path towards renewal and sustainable growth.
