AIB Raises €750 Million Through Tenth Green Bond
AIB has raised €750 million through the issuance of its tenth green bond, with proceeds set to support projects delivering environmental and climate action benefits.
The proceeds from the senior non-preferred issuance will also contribute to strengthening AIB’s capital position.
Eligible projects include renewable energy generation and transmission, green buildings, clean transportation, and circular economy and waste management.
The latest issuance adds to AIB’s wider green and transition lending activities as the bank continues to finance projects linked to Ireland’s transition toward a greener economy.
Strong Investor Demand for Green Bond
Despite recent global volatility, AIB said investor interest in the latest green bond was strong.
The transaction reached a peak order book of €2.2 billion, while pricing tightened by between 25-30 bps to a final coupon of 4.125%.
The lead arranger group for the bond sale comprised Goldman Sachs, Goodbody Stockbrokers, ING, Lloyds, Morgan Stanley and Santander.
AIB said strong investor interest was supported by the bank’s ESG credentials.
Green Lending Reaches €26 Billion
AIB’s latest green bond comes as its green lending portfolio continues to expand.
The bank said it has deployed €26 billion of green and transition lending since announcing its €30 billion Climate Action Target in 2019.
Of the €26 billion, €3.1 billion was deployed in the first half of 2026.
AIB said climate and infrastructure capital remains one of the fastest-growing parts of its lending book.
New climate and infrastructure lending reached €1.2bn in the first six months of 2026, an increase of €600 million.
The bank said the performance reflects its continued commitment to funding the transition to renewable energy and social infrastructure.
AIB’s Green Bond Programme
AIB was the first Irish bank to issue a green bond, launching its first green bond in 2020.
Since then, the bank has raised a combined €7.2 billion through green bond issuance, including refinancing.
When social bonds are included, AIB said it has raised €8.95 billion through bonds issued for environmental, social and governance purposes.
The latest €750 million issuance therefore adds to a growing programme of ESG-focused bond financing by the bank.

AIB Focuses on Climate Finance
AIB Chief Executive Colin Hunt said the need for climate action had not diminished but had become clearer.
“AIB’s tenth green bond issuance is not a destination, but a touchpoint in our journey,” Hunt said, adding that it would allow the bank to deploy capital and provide funding for green and transition-related infrastructure and activities.
Hunt also said AIB would continue working to reduce its own carbon footprint, support its 3.5 million customers through green loans and ensure capital is used in ways that benefit the environment.
Financing Renewable Energy and Green Infrastructure

The latest green bond will direct financing toward several areas identified as having environmental and climate action benefits.
These include renewable energy generation and transmission, which can support the development of renewable power infrastructure.
Other eligible areas include green buildings, clean transportation, and circular economy and waste management.
The financing therefore forms part of AIB’s broader approach to deploying capital toward projects connected to environmental and climate objectives.
Outlook
AIB’s tenth green bond brings its total green bond issuance to €7.2 billion, while its broader ESG bond issuance, including social bonds, has reached €8.95 billion.
The €750 million transaction will provide financing for eligible environmental projects while strengthening the bank’s capital position. AIB’s green and transition lending has reached €26 billion since 2019, with €3.1 billion deployed in the first half of 2026.
