Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals is moving toward a December 2026 debut on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) following the closure of its ₦2.15 trillion initial public offering (IPO) on October 27. At the ₦525 offer price, the refinery carries an indicative post-offer equity valuation of approximately ₦65.22 trillion, potentially lifting the Nigerian equities market towards ₦230 trillion if other share prices remain broadly unchanged.
The listing timetable remains provisional, with regulatory approval of share allotments and settlement still outstanding.
Key Overview
- Offer size: 4.1 billion ordinary shares at ₦525 apiece, equivalent to up to ₦2.1525 trillion in gross base-offer proceeds.
- Subscription deadline: The public offer closed on October 27 after an extension from October 13.
- Allotment process: The proposed basis of allotment is due to be submitted on November 10, with regulatory no-objection targeted for November 17.
- Expected trading: Share crediting and NGX trading are scheduled for 15 business days after allotment, indicating an early-December debut if milestones are met.
- Market impact: An indicative ₦65.22 trillion equity valuation could take the equities market from around ₦165 trillion to roughly ₦230 trillion, before subsequent market movements.
IPO Closure Sets Up December Trading
The refinery’s official offer-extension notice confirms that the subscription period opened on September 14 and was extended to October 27 with regulatory approval. The extension was intended to accommodate investors across African markets, including those requiring additional time for account opening and identity verification.
Following the confirmed close of the offer, registrars were scheduled to collate application returns by November 3. The issuing houses are expected to submit the proposed allotment basis to Nigeria’s Securities and Exchange Commission on November 10, with clearance targeted for November 17.
Under the revised schedule, successful investors’ shares should be credited to Central Securities Clearing System accounts 15 business days after the allotment date, coinciding with the proposed commencement of trading. This points to around December 8, subject to regulatory approvals and operational milestones. The issuer has not yet confirmed a final trading date or the number of shares successfully allotted.

How the Listing Could Lift NGX Value to ₦230 Trillion
The IPO launch announcement set the offer at 4.1 billion ordinary shares priced at ₦525 each. Multiplying the shares offered by the issue price gives potential gross proceeds of ₦2.1525 trillion if the base offer is fully subscribed and allotted.
That fundraising figure is not the company’s full valuation. The refinery’s indicative ₦65.22 trillion market capitalisation reflects the value of its enlarged equity at the offer price, including existing shares. An analysis of the prospectus puts the post-offer share count at approximately 124.23 billion, assuming the base offer is fully issued.
For context, Nigerian equities ended October at approximately ₦165.11 trillion, following a ₦2.01 trillion monthly increase. Adding the refinery’s indicative equity value to that reference level produces approximately ₦230.33 trillion. This is a mechanical scenario, not a forecast of the market’s closing valuation in December.
The refinery could therefore become the exchange’s largest listed company by market value at its offer price, exceeding individual existing listed companies and increasing the energy sector’s share of total equity capitalisation.
Valuation, Investor Demand and Listing Risks
The refinery’s offer launch disclosures reported first-half 2026 revenue of about ₦19.47 trillion and profit after tax of approximately ₦2.55 trillion. Those financial figures help explain interest in the company, but they do not guarantee its shares will trade at or above the offer price.
Independent pre-listing valuation assessments have also placed its value at roughly ₦77.7 trillion to ₦82.62 trillion, above the indicative offer-price valuation. These estimates are analyst assessments rather than realised market prices.
Investors will be watching the final subscription and allotment results, the proportion of shares freely tradeable, and the price established once secondary-market trading begins. A large addition to exchange capitalisation does not itself represent an equivalent cash inflow into the stock market, while a concentrated heavyweight listing could increase the influence of one company’s share-price movements on the broader market.
Until allotment approvals and the listing are formally announced, the ₦230 trillion threshold remains a conditional illustration of the refinery’s potential effect on the NGX.
