National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has passionately called upon Egypt to lend its influential support to the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), a visionary agreement poised to reshape the economic landscape of the continent.

Speaking from his office alongside Egyptian Ambassador to Kenya Wael Nasreldin Attiya, Wetang’ula highlighted Egypt’s pivotal role as a major economic player on the continent. He emphasized that Egypt’s active involvement is crucial for the successful realization of AfCFTA’s ambitious goals.

“Egypt, being one of the ‘Big Four Brothers’ in Africa and a key signatory of AfCFTA, holds a significant responsibility in driving our shared economic aspirations,” Wetang’ula stated.

During their constructive dialogue, Wetang’ula expounded on the transformative potential of AfCFTA, envisioning it as a catalyst for unprecedented economic advancement across Africa. Drawing inspiration from Egypt’s achievements in desert irrigation, the Speaker proposed adopting similar techniques in Kenya to enhance food production and rehabilitate arid regions.

“The success stories of Egypt’s irrigation programs can be replicated in Kenya, offering hope to communities in arid zones who struggle with food scarcity and livestock losses. These regions have the untapped potential to thrive with innovative agricultural methods,” Wetang’ula emphasized.

In a significant announcement, Ambassador Nasreldin Attiya revealed plans for the upcoming 7th Kenya-Egypt Joint Commission for Cooperation (JCC) event. This strategic event is poised to reinforce the growing trade ties between the two nations, opening doors to increased economic collaboration and mutual growth.

Ambassador Nasreldin Attiya echoed Wetang’ula’s sentiments, recognizing the historic strength of bilateral relations between Kenya and Egypt. “The upcoming JCC event serves as a platform to strengthen our trade bonds and accelerate economic progress for both our nations,” noted the Ambassador.

As Africa stands on the threshold of an economic transformation, Wetang’ula’s impassioned plea to Egypt serves as a rallying call for unified efforts in realizing AfCFTA’s visionary objectives. The partnership between these two nations has the potential to ignite a new era of economic vitality and shared prosperity throughout the African continent.
