  • The report aligns with GRI 13 and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).
  • More than 50,000 farms have been screened for deforestation risks.
  • The company expanded cocoa farmer empowerment and traceability programmes.
  • Johnvents strengthened climate governance and corporate ESG oversight.

Johnvents Publishes First ESG-Aligned Sustainability Report

Multinational agribusiness and manufacturing company Johnvents Group has released its first Sustainability Report, reinforcing its commitment to responsible business practices and aligning its operations with globally recognized Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) standards.

The report marks a major milestone in the company’s sustainability journey, providing a comprehensive overview of its environmental, social and governance performance while outlining a long-term strategy focused on transparency, accountability and sustainable growth.

Covering the 2025 financial year, the report consolidates sustainability performance across the group’s subsidiaries, including Johnvents Foods, Johnvents Industries, Premium Cocoa Products, Ile-Oluji, and Noble-Eagle.

Report Aligns with International ESG Frameworks

Johnvents said the report was prepared in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) 13: Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fishing Sectors 2022 Standard and incorporates a Double Materiality Assessment aligned with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). The report provides a structured overview of the company’s environmental, social and governance performance while identifying both the impact of its operations on society and the financial risks that sustainability issues may pose to the business.

These globally recognized frameworks are increasingly being adopted by companies to identify, measure and disclose the environmental and social impacts of their operations while also assessing sustainability-related financial risks. By aligning with these reporting standards, Johnvents aims to improve transparency, strengthen stakeholder confidence and provide investors, customers, regulators and business partners with more consistent and reliable sustainability disclosures.

Focus on Sustainable Agriculture and Deforestation

One of the report’s key highlights is the company’s progress in promoting sustainable agricultural practices throughout its cocoa supply chain.

According to Johnvents, it has screened more than 50,000 farms to identify and manage deforestation risks while expanding its farm-to-warehouse traceability systems.

The company said these initiatives are designed to support compliance with the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and Rainforest Alliance certification requirements, both of which require greater visibility into agricultural supply chains.

Johnvents also intensified implementation of its 150,000 Cocoa Farmers Empowerment Programme, aimed at improving sustainable farming practices, farmer livelihoods and responsible cocoa production.

Strengthening Climate and Carbon Management

The sustainability report also highlights significant progress in climate governance and emissions management.

Johnvents established its first greenhouse gas inventory in line with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, providing a baseline for measuring and managing emissions across its operations.

The company also strengthened its Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP), enhanced climate governance structures and expanded measures to reduce deforestation risks throughout its supply chain.

These initiatives reflect growing expectations from global markets for companies to quantify and reduce their environmental impacts while improving resilience to climate-related risks.

Governance Takes Centre Stage

Beyond environmental initiatives, Johnvents said it has strengthened its governance framework to better integrate sustainability into business decision-making.

The company introduced enhanced board-level oversight alongside specialized functions responsible for responsible sourcing, sustainable finance, carbon management, regulatory compliance and occupational health and safety.

Founder and Group Managing Director John Alamu described the publication of the sustainability report as the beginning of a new phase in measuring and reporting the company’s environmental and social performance.

He said the group’s priorities include strengthening implementation, expanding sustainability initiatives throughout its value chain and building a more resilient and globally competitive business.

Group Executive Director Tarun Chawla added that sustainability has become central to long-term business performance and value creation, emphasizing that transparent reporting will continue to support the company’s stakeholders.

Outlook

Johnvents’ inaugural Sustainability Report reflects the growing importance of ESG reporting within Africa’s agribusiness sector as companies adapt to evolving global sustainability regulations, investor expectations and supply chain requirements. By aligning with internationally recognized reporting frameworks, strengthening supply chain traceability, improving climate governance and enhancing emissions management, the company is positioning itself to compete more effectively in sustainability-focused global markets. Initiatives such as farm-level deforestation screening, cocoa farmer empowerment and compliance with the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) are expected to improve market access while reinforcing responsible sourcing practices. As ESG disclosure requirements continue to tighten worldwide, sustained investment in environmental stewardship, transparent reporting, carbon management and resilient agricultural value chains is likely to strengthen Johnvents’ long-term competitiveness, regulatory compliance and stakeholder confidence.
