Online and Mobile Share Trading in Kenya: Every Broker Platform and App Compared
You no longer need to visit a stockbroker's office every time you want to buy shares on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE). In 2026, Kenyan investors can open accounts digitally, monitor portfolios from their phones and place NSE trades online.
But there is an important distinction: the app you use and the broker executing your trade are not always the same thing.
So, if you are searching for an NSE app, NSE online trading or wondering which is the best stock broker in Kenya, here is how the main options work.
First: How online NSE trading works
To buy and sell listed shares, you need access to the Kenyan capital-markets infrastructure.
For the traditional route, you open a CDS account through an approved Central Depository Agent (CDA), such as a stockbroker, investment bank or custodian. CDSC records and safeguards your securities electronically.
CDSC currently provides three practical routes for buying and selling NSE shares:
- A stockbroker or investment bank
- The Dosikaa app
- M-PESA Ziidi Trader
The last option uses a pooled/nominee structure rather than an individual CDS account in your name.
1. Dosikaa: the digital-first option
Dosikaa is a capital-markets digital platform supported by the CMA, NSE, CDSC, KASIB and licensed stockbrokers. It allows investors to open or link a CDS account and trade NSE-listed shares.
CDSC says you can open a shares account through Dosikaa, select your preferred stockbroker and begin buying shares. Its current information states that investment can start from KSh500.
What you can do
- Open or link a CDS account
- Buy and sell shares
- Access market information
- Create watchlists
- Set price alerts
- View mini-statements
- Top up and withdraw
- Track your portfolio
Best for: Investors who want a mobile-first way to access NSE trading.
2. Traditional broker platforms
You can also open your CDS account directly through a licensed stockbroker or investment bank and trade through its online portal, website or mobile platform where available.
CDSC maintains a current list of approved Central Depository Agents. The list includes firms such as Faida Investment Bank, Genghis Capital, NCBA Investment Bank, KCB Investment Bank, Dyer & Blair Investment Bank, Kingdom Securities, AIB-AXYS Africa and ABC Capital, among others.
The CMA also maintains its own licensing information for market intermediaries.
Why choose a broker directly?
You may get:
- Direct broker support
- Online trading access
- Research and market information
- Portfolio statements
- Professional assistance when required
However, platform features differ by broker. Some may offer sophisticated web-based trading, while others may focus more on assisted investing.
Best for: Investors who want a direct relationship with a licensed broker.
3. M-PESA Ziidi Trader
Another newer route is Ziidi Trader, available through the M-PESA ecosystem.
CDSC says Ziidi Trader allows investors to buy and sell NSE shares from their M-PESA wallet, including purchases starting from one share.
There is an important difference, however.
With a traditional CDS account, your shares are held in your name in the CDS. With a pooled/nominee platform such as Ziidi Trader, the intermediary holds the shares on your behalf and records your beneficial interest within the platform.
Best for
Investors who want a highly convenient mobile experience and already use M-PESA regularly.

What documents do you need?
For an individual CDS account, CDSC currently lists:
- Original National ID or passport and a copy
- Two recent coloured passport photographs
- KRA PIN certificate
- Completed and signed CDS 1 form
Digital onboarding may simplify how these documents are submitted.
Quick question
Should you choose an app simply because it is the easiest to use?
No. Also compare licensing, fees, execution, security, customer support and how your shares are held.
What about NSE online trading login?
Your NSE online trading login depends on the platform you selected.
If you use a broker, you normally log into that broker's trading platform. If you use Dosikaa, you use the Dosikaa application. The NSE itself also operates digital market-information and investor-education services, but it is not simply a retail brokerage app through which every investor directly places ordinary share orders.
How do you choose the best stock broker in Kenya?
There is no universally best stock broker in Kenya.
Compare:
- CMA licensing
- CDSC authorisation
- Trading fees
- Platform reliability
- Mobile and web functionality
- Customer support
- Research tools
- Deposit and withdrawal options
- Portfolio reporting
Most importantly, verify the broker before sending money. CMA and CDSC publish information on approved market participants.
The bottom line
Kenyan investors now have several ways to trade NSE shares digitally. Dosikaa provides a mobile-first route, traditional brokers offer their own online channels, and Ziidi Trader provides an M-PESA-based alternative.
Convenience should not be your only consideration.
Before choosing an NSE app or online platform, check who operates it, whether the relevant intermediary is licensed, what you will pay, and whether your shares are held directly in your CDS account or through a pooled structure.
