Complete Fixed Income Fund Register
If you are looking for fixed income funds in Kenya, one of the first things to establish is which funds are actually approved to operate.
The Capital Markets Authority (CMA) maintains a register of approved collective investment schemes in Kenya. The register includes conventional fixed income funds, bond funds, special fixed income funds and some dollar-denominated fixed income products. It is therefore a useful starting point when comparing investment options.
Important: A fund appearing on the CMA register does not mean it is the best fixed income fund or that its returns are guaranteed. Approval confirms its regulatory status; investors should still assess fees, risk, investment strategy, liquidity and performance.

What does "bond fund" mean?
You may notice that the register includes bond funds alongside products specifically called fixed income funds.
A bond fund is a type of fixed-income investment fund that primarily invests in bonds. In practice, Kenyan fund providers may use terms such as fixed income fund, bond fund or income fund for products with different investment mandates.
For example, the CMA register lists the GenCap Hazina Fund as a Bond Fund, while GenCap also has a separate GenCap Fixed Income Fund.
Therefore, don't assume that two funds with similar names have identical portfolios.
What about special fixed income funds?
The register also contains special fixed income funds. These can have different investment requirements from ordinary retail fixed income funds.
For example, the CMA lists Britam Special Fixed Income Fund, Old Mutual Special Fixed Income Fund, Jubilee Enhanced Fixed Income Special Fund and Arvocap Eurofix Fixed Income Special Fund.
Some special funds may target particular investors, investment periods or strategies. Always check the fund's information memorandum and current fact sheet before investing.
How do you choose from the register?

A long list can be useful, but it does not tell you which fund is right for you.
When comparing the best fixed income funds to invest in, check:
- Minimum investment: How much do you need to start?
- Management fees: What does the fund charge?
- Investment strategy: What securities does it hold?
- Risk: What could affect your investment?
- Liquidity: How quickly can you withdraw?
- Lock-in period: Are withdrawals restricted?
- Historical performance: How has it performed over time?
- Currency: Is the fund denominated in KES or another currency?
For example, Etica's current KES Fixed Income Fund lists a KSh100 minimum investment, 2% annual management fee and no lock-in period. Kuza's current product information lists a KSh1,000 minimum initial investment, KSh50 minimum top-up and 2% annual management fee.
These differences show why investors should look beyond a fund's name when comparing products.
Where can you verify a fund?

The CMA approved collective investment schemes register is the best starting point for checking whether a scheme appears among approved collective investment schemes. The CMA also maintains a separate register of licensed fund managers.
After finding a fund on the CMA register, visit the fund manager's official website and check its latest:
- Fund fact sheet
- Key Investor Information Document
- Information Memorandum
- Fee schedule
- Application and withdrawal terms
A final word for investors
This register is designed to help you find and compare, not to rank funds.
If you are searching for the best fixed income funds in Kenya, remember that "best" depends on your investment amount, time horizon, income needs, risk tolerance and need for liquidity.
Most importantly, regulatory approval does not guarantee investment returns or eliminate investment risk. The CMA itself states that it does not take responsibility for the financial soundness of schemes or the correctness of statements made by them.
