Edify Reaches Financial Close
Australian renewable energy developer Edify Energy has reached financial close on the Ganymirra and Majors Creek solar-plus-storage projects near Townsville in North Queensland.
Located in Woodstock on Thul Garrie Waja Country, the projects are being developed on the traditional lands of the Bindal People. Together, they will deliver 360MWp of solar generation and 300MW/1,200MWh of battery storage.
The projects are expected to become operational in 2028, adding significant renewable generation and energy storage capacity to Queensland’s electricity system.
The financial close was supported by Edify’s shareholder La Caisse and a syndicate of 14 domestic and international lenders. Approximately AU$3.2 billion (US$2.26 billion) has now been committed across Ganymirra, Majors Creek and Edify’s previously financed Smoky Creek and Guthrie’s Gap projects.
Edify described the financing as a greenfield renewable energy portfolio financing package, alongside a separate corporate-level financing facility.
Solar Generation Combined With Battery Storage

Ganymirra and Majors Creek are being developed as integrated hybrid renewable energy assets, combining solar generation with large-scale battery storage.
The projects will use reverse DC-coupled technology and a single set of grid-forming inverters. This configuration is intended to improve the availability and value of renewable electricity while also providing services that support network stability.
The battery systems will allow electricity generated by the solar plants to be stored and dispatched when demand is higher. This means renewable power produced during periods of strong solar generation can be shifted to periods when electricity demand increases.
Once operational, the projects are expected to generate enough electricity to supply more than 100,000 homes.
The use of grid-forming inverters is also significant as Australia’s electricity system incorporates increasing amounts of variable renewable generation. The technology can support grid stability as the role of traditional generation changes.
Construction Expected to Begin in Q3 2026
Engineering and construction company DT Infrastructure has secured the engineering, procurement and construction contract for the projects.
Chinese battery manufacturer CATL will supply the battery storage systems, while Powerlink will undertake network and connection works.
Major construction is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2026, with around 400 jobs expected to be supported during the peak construction period.
DT Infrastructure said the projects build on its existing relationship with Edify following early work on the Smoky Creek and Guthrie’s Gap developments.
CATL had previously committed to supplying 2,400MWh of battery storage for Edify’s Queensland hybrid renewable energy portfolio.
The construction phase is therefore expected to provide employment opportunities while generating additional activity for regional suppliers and contractors.
Projects Backed by Australia’s Capacity Investment Scheme
Ganymirra and Majors Creek are backed by Australia’s Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS), a federal initiative designed to support investment in renewable generation and dispatchable capacity.
The two developments represent Edify’s third and fourth projects to reach financial close under the programme.
The CIS is helping support Australia’s expanding pipeline of renewable energy and storage projects by providing greater revenue certainty for developers and reducing some of the investment risks associated with large-scale projects.
For projects such as Ganymirra and Majors Creek, the combination of solar generation and battery storage allows renewable electricity to be generated and then dispatched when it is most valuable to the electricity system.
Edify Expands Queensland Portfolio
The financial close follows the completion of financing for Edify’s Smoky Creek and Guthrie’s Gap projects in May 2026.
Those projects will feature 720MWp of solar and 600MW/2,400MWh of storage, also in Queensland.
Together, the four projects represent a major expansion of Edify’s renewable energy and storage portfolio.
Smoky Creek and Guthrie’s Gap also have a long-term arrangement with Rio Tinto, which has committed to purchasing 90% of their power and storage capacity to support lower-carbon electricity supply for its Gladstone aluminium operations.
The projects use the same 14-lender syndicate and greenfield financing structure, highlighting the broader financing strategy being applied across Edify’s Queensland portfolio.
Supporting Regional Investment and Jobs
The Ganymirra and Majors Creek projects are expected to generate economic benefits beyond electricity generation.
As part of its commitments under the Capacity Investment Scheme, Edify has pledged local content commitments and community and First Nations engagement.
More than AU$450 million is projected to circulate through regional Queensland through local supply chains, employment and other economic activity associated with the developments.
The projects therefore form part of a wider transition in Queensland, where large-scale renewable generation and battery storage are increasingly being developed together to support the electricity system.
Outlook
Edify Energy’s financial close on Ganymirra and Majors Creek strengthens Queensland’s pipeline of large-scale solar and battery projects. The developments will combine 360MWp of solar generation with 1,200MWh of battery storage, providing renewable electricity while increasing the flexibility of the power system.
With construction expected to begin in Q3 2026 and operations targeted for 2028, the projects will also contribute to regional employment and supply-chain activity. Their financing demonstrates the growing role of large-scale battery storage, grid-forming technology and government-backed investment mechanisms in Australia’s energy transition.
As Queensland continues expanding renewable generation, projects that combine solar generation with dispatchable battery capacity are likely to become increasingly important for managing variable renewable output and meeting periods of higher electricity demand.
