Soneium, the Ethereum layer 2 network backed by Sony, announced on 26 October 2026 that it plans to issue a native ecosystem token called SONEIUM. The token is part of a shift towards “Tokenized IP”, which lets creators and entertainment companies raise funds against music, anime, games and other creative works, while fans and investors share in commercial activity. The first projects include Moriusa, a character from Tokyo-based Super State Holdings, and K-pop concert royalties through DayOneDream. A new Soneium Portal will handle IP investments. Soneium has not disclosed a launch date, supply or tokenomics, and confirmed no token has been issued yet.
Key Overview
- Token: SONEIUM, Soneium’s planned native ecosystem token.
- Status: Not yet issued. No launch date, supply or distribution details disclosed.
- New products: IP Tokens, IP Vault, IP Bond and the Soneium Portal.
- First projects: Moriusa character IP and K-pop concert royalties via DayOneDream.
- Ecosystem: More than 250 applications across music, gaming, anime and film.
- Developers: Sony Group’s blockchain unit, Sony Block Solutions Labs, with Startale Group.
Soneium Announces Plans for a Native Token
Soneium has announced plans to issue SONEIUM, a native ecosystem token, as it expands into tokenized entertainment rights and investment products tied to music, anime, games and other creative works. The network is an Ethereum layer 2 developed through a collaboration between Sony Group and Startale Group.
The token is meant to connect five groups in an onchain entertainment economy: creators, IP owners, builders, fans and investors. Soneium’s own announcement put it simply: “Today we introduce Tokenized IP and our plan to issue $SONEIUM”, describing it as an ecosystem-native token.
Investors looking for launch details will have to wait. Soneium has not disclosed a launch date or details on supply, distribution or the token generation event (TGE). Its documentation says any future issuance by the Soneium Foundation remains subject to applicable laws and regulations. The network said TGE details will be released at a later date.
How Tokenized IP Would Work

At the centre of the plan is Tokenized IP, a system that represents intellectual property and its economic value on the blockchain. Creators and entertainment companies will be able to issue IP Tokens linked to individual artists, studios or specific titles.
Depending on how they are structured, IP Tokens can take two forms:
- Collectibles: proof of fandom that supports community activities.
- Fungible tokens: currencies that circulate within a single property’s economy.
Some offerings may include automated revenue sharing, giving eligible holders distributions tied to commercial activity.
Soneium is also preparing two wider investment products:
- IP Vault: gives indirect access to royalty-backed entertainment investments such as music catalogue funds.
- IP Bond: bonds backed by entertainment businesses.
Moriusa and K-pop Lead the First Projects
The first IP Token project involves Moriusa, a character owned by Tokyo-based Super State Holdings. Soneium says the initiative will support the character’s expansion into merchandise, animated shorts and licensing, with fans potentially helping to fund those activities.
K-pop is the second focus. In September, Soneium partnered with South Korean entertainment company DayOneDream to bring K-pop IP and its revenue onchain through DayOneDream’s WAVIST platform. In May, WAVIST completed a full tokenized IP bond cycle covering issuance, redemption and burning. Neither company disclosed the bond’s value or which artists’ IP it financed.
DayOneDream manages artists including BTOB, Lee Chae Yeon, MeMi and 2F. The companies have not said when the first assets will be offered, which artists come first, or how large any offering will be.

Soneium Portal and Onchain IP Architecture
Users will reach these products through Soneium Portal, a new platform for discovering and financing tokenized entertainment projects. The portal will start with primary sales before adding fan participation features and royalty distribution. The Startale App will serve as a wider gateway into the ecosystem.
Behind the products sits a three-part technical system called Onchain IP Architecture:
- IP Registry: records creative works and ownership information.
- IP Graph: tracks links between original content, derivative works and collaborations.
- IP Execution Layer: handles licensing payments and revenue distribution through smart contracts, using rules set by rights holders.
Soneium will also support ERC-8432, a proposed Ethereum standard that lets applications and autonomous AI agents read licensing terms and verify agreements across platforms. The company says this could help creators manage how their work is used as AI-generated content grows, while existing copyright protections continue to apply.
Sony’s Blockchain Push Builds Momentum
The token plan builds on a busy year for Soneium. Developed by Sony Block Solutions Labs, the network launched its mainnet on 14 January 2025 on Optimism’s OP Stack. Startale has said Soneium processed more than 500 million transactions since then.
Funding has followed. Sony Innovation Fund invested $13 million in Startale Group, and Startale later closed a $63 million Series A in March with backing from SBI Group and Sony Innovation Fund. In September, Soneium adopted OP Enterprise services from OP Labs for chain operations, with a 99.9% monthly uptime target.
Yuji Kumagai, head of Soneium Protocol, framed the shift around creators. “Entertainment starts with creators,” he said, adding that Soneium will “help them fund their next work at a new scale” and find new ways to connect with fans.
Outlook
Soneium’s plan gives Sony’s blockchain a clearer purpose: turning entertainment IP into financeable, tradable assets, with a native token tying the ecosystem together. With more than 250 applications, early projects in anime and K-pop, and Sony’s backing, the network has a credible base to build on.
Key details remain missing. There is no launch date, supply figure or distribution plan for SONEIUM, and no terms for the first IP offerings. Royalty-sharing products may also face securities rules in different jurisdictions, which could shape who can invest. The TGE details, the first Soneium Portal sales and the terms of the DayOneDream offerings will show whether tokenized IP can attract real investor demand.
