Cryptocurrency exchange Gate has announced a partnership with Visa to introduce a crypto-linked payment card across more than 40 countries and territories, expanding the practical use of digital assets in everyday transactions.

The October 8, 2026 partnership announcement outlines plans to enable eligible customers to spend cryptocurrency at online and physical merchants accepting Visa. The card will automatically convert supported digital assets into fiat currency at checkout, allowing customers to make conventional payments without manually selling their cryptocurrency beforehand.

The collaboration also supports Gate’s broader strategy of integrating cryptocurrency trading, traditional financial services, and payments into a single platform through its newly introduced Gate Money service.

Key Overview

  • Global expansion: Gate plans to introduce its crypto-linked Visa card across more than 40 countries and territories.
  • Automatic conversion: Supported cryptocurrencies will be converted into fiat currency when customers make payments.
  • Merchant acceptance: The card will connect eligible users to Visa’s network of more than 175 million merchant locations globally.
  • Unified financial services: Gate Money integrates cryptocurrencies, fiat balances, investments, banking services, and payments.
  • Growing adoption: More than 160 stablecoin-linked Visa card programmes operate globally, with payment volumes increasing nearly 200% year-over-year.
  • Market availability: Eligibility, supported assets, fees, and launch timelines will depend on individual markets and card programmes.

How Gate’s Crypto-Linked Visa Card Will Work

The new payment card is designed to simplify the process of using cryptocurrency for everyday purchases.

Under the announced payment mechanism, users will be able to pay with supported assets held in their Gate accounts. When a transaction is initiated, the relevant cryptocurrency will be converted into fiat currency to complete the purchase through Visa’s payment infrastructure.

This arrangement means merchants can receive conventional card payments without needing cryptocurrency wallets or systems capable of processing blockchain transactions.

For example, an eligible customer holding Bitcoin or a supported stablecoin could potentially use the card to pay for groceries, restaurant bills, hotel bookings, or online purchases without first transferring their assets to a conventional bank account.

Gate’s existing card functionality supports assets including USDT, Bitcoin, Ethereum, and GT under its Instant Spend Mode. However, the company has not confirmed that every asset will be supported across all markets covered by the new rollout.

Users will be able to apply for and manage the card through Gate’s application, although approval will depend on identity verification, residency, and local regulatory requirements.

Gate Money Expands Beyond Cryptocurrency Trading

The partnership forms part of Gate’s wider financial services expansion through Gate Money, which combines digital assets and traditional financial products within one application.

According to the company’s official announcement, the platform brings together cryptocurrencies, fiat currencies, stocks, exchange-traded funds, gold, banking services, and payments.

Eligible customers can also apply for bank accounts in their own names and access services involving fund transfers, currency conversions, and payments.

Gate says users can activate Gate Money by updating their application to version 8.39.0.

The integration represents an effort to reduce the separation between cryptocurrency investment accounts and conventional financial services. Rather than treating digital assets exclusively as investment holdings, Gate aims to make them accessible for routine spending and broader money management.

However, customers should distinguish between the availability of Gate Money and eligibility for the new Visa card, as both services may have different geographic restrictions.

Visa’s Stablecoin Payment Network Continues Expanding

Gate’s partnership comes as Visa expands its digital asset payment infrastructure.

According to payment network figures published in September 2026, more than 160 stablecoin-linked card programmes were operating globally during Visa’s fiscal second quarter.

Payment volume across these programmes increased nearly 200% compared with the corresponding period a year earlier.

Visa also reported that stablecoin settlement activity had exceeded a $20 billion annualised run rate, reflecting increasing use of digital currencies within established payment infrastructure.

The company’s October 2026 payment data further showed that approximately 17% of stablecoin-linked card volume during fiscal 2026 year-to-date came from business and commercial card programmes.

These developments suggest that cryptocurrency-linked payment products are expanding beyond individual retail spending into corporate payments, treasury management, and cross-border commerce.

What the Partnership Means for Crypto Adoption

The Gate-Visa collaboration illustrates how cryptocurrency companies are increasingly integrating digital assets into established financial infrastructure.

For consumers, crypto-linked cards could reduce the inconvenience of converting digital holdings into spendable money before making purchases.

For merchants, the model preserves conventional card acceptance without requiring direct exposure to cryptocurrencies.

Nevertheless, automatic conversion does not eliminate potential costs or risks. Exchange-rate differences, conversion charges, cryptocurrency price volatility, and applicable tax obligations can affect the final cost of a transaction.

Gate has not published a complete list of the more than 40 supported markets or confirmed a single launch date for all jurisdictions. Customers should therefore verify local eligibility and charges before applying.

Ultimately, the partnership is another step toward making digital assets usable for ordinary financial transactions, although its practical impact will depend on geographic availability, competitive fees, and sustained customer adoption.
