Dangote Group has unveiled an ambitious Vision 2030 strategy targeting at least $115 billion in annual turnover and about $35 billion in yearly profit by the end of the decade, supported by nearly $50 billion in planned investments across Africa.

The expansion programme stretches beyond the group’s established cement, fertiliser and refining businesses into liquefied natural gas, power generation, ports, upstream energy and additional industrial infrastructure.

A major component of the strategy is the proposed East Africa Refinery in Lamu, Kenya, where preparations are underway for a September 30, 2026 groundbreaking. The 700,000-barrel-per-day project is expected to become one of East Africa’s largest industrial investments if completed as planned.

Key Overview

  • Dangote Group is targeting at least $115–120 billion in annual turnover by 2030.
  • The conglomerate is aiming for approximately $35 billion in annual profit.
  • Nearly $50 billion in new investment is planned across its African operations.
  • An approximately $8 billion LNG project is part of the expansion strategy.
  • The proposed Lamu refinery is designed to process 700,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
  • Current estimates place the Kenyan refinery investment at roughly $15 billion to $17 billion.
  • The Lamu complex is also expected to include major power, petrochemical and industrial infrastructure.
  • Dangote expects existing businesses and committed financing to support its expansion programme.

Dangote Lays Out Its Vision 2030 Ambition

Dangote Industries has outlined one of the most aggressive corporate expansion programmes currently planned on the African continent.

Under its Vision 2030 roadmap, the group expects its businesses to generate at least $115 billion to $120 billion in annual turnover by the end of the decade, alongside approximately $35 billion in annual profit.

The targets are based on expansion across businesses the group already operates or is developing, including petroleum refining, fertiliser, cement, petrochemicals, gas infrastructure and power.

Dangote has said the strategy could ultimately support a group valuation of more than $350 billion if its earnings targets are achieved.

The group plans to deploy roughly $50 billion in additional capital expenditure as it expands existing operations and enters new areas including LNG, mining and upstream energy.

Management expects a substantial portion of the required equity to come from cash generated by its existing assets, while debt commitments are being arranged with financial institutions.

$8 Billion LNG Plant Expands Energy Ambitions

A key new component of the programme is an approximately $8 billion liquefied natural gas plant with planned capacity of around 13 million tonnes per year.

Unlike several other businesses included in the group’s expansion plan, the LNG operation will be developed largely from the ground up.

The investment would broaden Dangote’s position within Africa’s energy sector beyond refining and petrochemicals and give the conglomerate exposure to a global LNG market increasingly shaped by energy-security requirements and growing gas demand.

The group is also exploring further investment in gas infrastructure, upstream production and power generation as it seeks to create a more integrated energy portfolio.

Lamu Refinery Moves Toward Construction

Kenya is emerging as another major pillar of Dangote’s expansion strategy.

The proposed East Africa Refinery in Lamu is scheduled for a September 30, 2026 groundbreaking and is designed to process approximately 700,000 barrels of crude oil per day.

Published project estimates currently range from about $15 billion to $17 billion, with variations partly reflecting the infrastructure and associated facilities included in different estimates.

Physical mobilisation has already begun. A vessel carrying approximately 2,930 tonnes of project cargo arrived at Lamu Port ahead of the planned launch.

Construction is expected to take roughly three to four years, although the eventual schedule will depend on financing, engineering, procurement and project execution.

The facility is intended to supply Kenya and neighbouring regional markets while reducing East Africa’s dependence on imported refined petroleum products.

Refinery Could Anchor a Wider Industrial Complex

The Lamu development is being conceived as more than a standalone oil refinery.

Plans include petrochemical facilities, energy infrastructure and a substantial power-generation component. Dangote has indicated that the complex could include a power plant capable of producing approximately 1,000 megawatts, with part of that capacity potentially supplied to Kenya’s national grid.

An engineering contract worth more than $450 million has also been awarded for project-management and engineering services associated with the Kenyan refinery and petrochemical complex.

The development’s location near Lamu Port could provide maritime access for crude imports, equipment deliveries and eventual exports of refined products.

Its scale could also create additional demand for logistics, engineering, construction, storage, chemicals and related industrial services.

Financing a $50 Billion Expansion

Financing will be critical to whether Dangote can achieve the scale envisaged under Vision 2030.

The group expects existing operating businesses to produce enough revenue and cash flow to provide equity for new investments, while external borrowing will supplement internal funding.

Africa Finance Corporation is among the institutions linked to the group’s broader financing plans.

The company is also increasingly turning to capital markets. Dangote Petroleum Refinery has launched an equity offering as the group looks to raise additional capital and broaden ownership of one of its largest assets.

The Lamu project itself will require a combination of equity and debt financing, with a final financing structure still evolving.

The size of the planned investments means execution risk remains significant. Commodity markets, financing costs, project delays, crude availability and regional demand will all influence actual returns.

Still, the Vision 2030 programme represents a significant expansion of Dangote’s industrial strategy. If completed at the announced scale, the new refining, LNG, petrochemical, power and infrastructure projects would substantially increase the group’s presence across African energy and manufacturing markets.
