Nam A Bank has secured an additional $20 million in green financing from the Swiss Investment Fund for Emerging Markets (SIFEM AG) to expand lending for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), women-led businesses, and projects supporting green transformation, energy transition, renewable energy, green transport, high-tech agriculture and financial inclusion. The agreement, signed during the Vietnam Green Finance Summit 2026, strengthens the bank’s international sustainable finance strategy while supporting Vietnam’s Net Zero 2050 goal.

Key Overview

  • Nam A Bank secured $20 million in green financing from SIFEM AG.
  • The agreement was signed during the Vietnam Green Finance Summit 2026.
  • The funding will support SMEs, women-led businesses and green projects.
  • Priority sectors include renewable energy, energy transition, green transport and high-tech agriculture.
  • Nam A Bank has mobilised around $350 million from international development finance institutions since the beginning of 2026.
  • The bank’s international fundraising for sustainable development has exceeded $1 billion.

Nam A Bank has secured an additional 20 million USD in green financing from the Swiss Investment Fund for Emerging Markets (SIFEM AG), strengthening its capacity to finance sustainable development projects across Vietnam.

The credit agreement was signed on August 6 during the Vietnam Green Finance Summit 2026 in Ho Chi Minh City, reinforcing efforts to connect international green capital with investment opportunities in Vietnam.

SIFEM, which is wholly owned by the Swiss Government, is Switzerland’s development finance institution investing in private-sector projects across emerging markets. The financing facility is managed by responsAbility Investments AG, a Swiss asset manager specialising in impact investing and development finance.

Funding Supports Green Projects and SMEs

Nam A Bank’s $20 million green finance supports SMEs, renewable energy and sustainable projects in Vietnam.

The newly secured financing will be allocated to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), women-led businesses, and projects supporting green transformation, energy transition, renewable energy, green transport, high-tech agriculture and financial inclusion.

According to Nam A Bank, the international capital will also strengthen its green credit portfolio by supporting renewable energy, energy efficiency and climate change response initiatives in Vietnam towards the Net Zero 2050 goal.

Speaking during the event, Deputy CEO Vo Hoang Hai said the agreement translates the summit’s objective of connecting international green capital with investment opportunities in Vietnam into practical action.

Expanding International Green Finance

The latest facility forms part of Nam A Bank’s broader strategy to expand cooperation with international development finance institutions while increasing the availability of green capital for Vietnam.

Since the beginning of 2026, the bank has mobilised around $350 million from international development finance institutions, including the Netherlands’ FMO and Switzerland-based responsAbility and Symbiotics.

According to the bank, its total international fundraising for sustainable development has now exceeded $1 billion.

The partnership also builds on Nam A Bank’s wider collaboration with international financial institutions and development organisations, including J.P. Morgan, IFC, ADB, FMO, SIFEM, Proparco, Symbiotics, BlueOrchard, and responsAbility.

Meeting International ESG Standards

Vo Hoang Hai said the partnership reflects the bank’s ability to meet demanding international standards on governance, risk management and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices.

“The partnership with SIFEM and responsAbility underscores Nam A Bank’s transparent operational standards and ESG governance capabilities in line with stringent global benchmarks. We are committed to make efficient use of the resources to implement the financial inclusion strategy, facilitating SME access to green capital and driving sustainable development for the economy.”

The bank noted that securing international funding requires meeting rigorous assessments covering operational transparency, risk management capabilities and the effectiveness of its sustainable development portfolio.

Supporting Vietnam’s Climate Investment Needs

According to World Bank estimates, Vietnam will require an additional 368 billion USD in investment by 2040 to achieve its net-zero emissions target by 2050 while strengthening climate resilience.

Approximately half of that financing is expected to come from the private sector and international investors.

The latest agreement contributes to efforts to mobilise international capital for sustainable development and expand financing for projects supporting Vietnam’s transition to a lower-carbon economy.

Outlook

The $20 million financing agreement further strengthens Nam A Bank’s strategy of expanding international green finance partnerships while increasing access to sustainable capital in Vietnam. By directing the funding towards SMEs, women-led businesses, renewable energy, energy transition, green transport, high-tech agriculture, energy efficiency and climate change response initiatives, the bank aims to support Vietnam’s Net Zero 2050 ambitions while reinforcing its position as a partner for international development finance institutions. As demand for climate investment continues to grow, partnerships with organisations such as SIFEM AG and responsAbility Investments AG are expected to play an increasingly important role in mobilising long-term green capital.
