InstaVolt Expands Zapmap Partnership to Offer More EV Charging Payment Options

InstaVolt, the UK’s largest high-powered EV charging network, has extended its long-standing partnership with Zapmap, the UK’s leading EV charging app, to give drivers more payment choice across its public network.

Zapmap users, now numbering over one million, can pay for charging at more than 2,500 Rapid and Ultra-rapid InstaVolt chargers across almost 900 locations using the Zapmap app or charging card.

InstaVolt’s chargers are located primarily at quality food and beverage and retail spaces, including McDonald’s, Costa Coffee and Booths, as well as along the strategic road network, including motorway service areas.

The company recently calculated that EV drivers in the UK are never more than 30 miles from one of its chargers.

Zapmap Expands Payment Access Across Charging Networks

Zapmap enables EV drivers to access and pay at 2,500+ InstaVolt rapid and ultra-rapid chargers across nearly 900 UK locations.

InstaVolt’s charging network joins over 80,000 other chargers across more than 50 networks already integrated into the Zapmap payment solution.

The solution covers on-street, destination and en-route charge points, with additional networks continuing to be integrated.

Zapmap users can discover InstaVolt chargers through the app, view live availability status, pricing and community feedback, and now manage and pay for charging through the same platform or with a Zapmap charging card.

Drivers can add a credit or debit card to their Zapmap account and use it to pay for EV charging. They can also use the Zapmap charging card to pay across participating networks.

The payment solution is designed to allow drivers to avoid using different payment methods across various charge point operators.

Drivers paying with Zapmap can also view their charging history, receive live status updates and download receipts to track their spending. Apple Pay and Google Pay are also available on devices that accept payment through Zapmap.

InstaVolt Network Focuses on Rapid and Ultra-Rapid Charging

InstaVolt has developed a network focused on Rapid and Ultra-rapid charging, with sites positioned at retail, hospitality and strategic transport locations.

The company has also deployed battery storage technology at selected sites to support grid-independent resilience.

One example is the Winchester superhub, which provides charging for 44 vehicles.

InstaVolt has also installed battery storage directly connected to its chargers at Welcome Break Corley on the M6, which the company describes as the UK’s first motorway services to host on-site battery storage connected directly to its chargers.

The network was also named an “EV driver recommended” network in Zapmap’s latest driver satisfaction rankings.

Partnership Aims to Simplify the Charging Experience

InstaVolt said its focus has always been on giving drivers confidence in public charging by helping them find reliable chargers and get back on the road quickly.

Delvin Lane, Chief Executive Officer at InstaVolt, said adding Zapmap as another way to pay across its network gives drivers more choice and makes it easier to access high-powered charging.

He said the partnership builds on the companies’ long-standing relationship and is intended to make the charging experience simpler as more people switch to electric vehicles.

Melanie Shuflebotham, Co-founder and COO of Zapmap, said InstaVolt has developed a reliable network of Rapid and Ultra-rapid chargers across the UK.

She said the expanded partnership allows Zapmap users to discover InstaVolt chargers, view live availability, pricing and community feedback, while also providing the option to pay through the app or charging card.

Supporting Wider EV Adoption

The partnership comes as the UK’s EV charging network continues to expand and drivers increasingly rely on public charging infrastructure.

For EV users, access to reliable charging is important not only for long-distance journeys but also for drivers who depend on public chargers as part of their regular travel.

By combining InstaVolt’s charging infrastructure with Zapmap’s discovery and payment platform, the partnership provides drivers with a more consistent way to find and pay for charging.

Zapmap’s payment solution was launched to allow for interoperability of payment across key UK charge point networks, allowing drivers to use different payment methods across multiple charging operators through one platform.

The expanded InstaVolt partnership adds more high-powered charging locations to that system, giving Zapmap users access to thousands of additional Rapid and Ultra-rapid chargers.

Outlook

The expanded InstaVolt and Zapmap partnership gives EV drivers more flexibility when accessing public charging in the UK. With more than 2,500 InstaVolt chargers across almost 900 locations now available for payment through Zapmap, drivers can use the app or charging card while accessing live availability, pricing and charging history.

The partnership also combines InstaVolt’s growing high-powered charging network with Zapmap’s wider payment infrastructure, supporting a simpler and more consistent EV charging experience across the UK.
