Temasek-owned climate investment platform GenZero has reported a 47% year-on-year increase in cumulative direct realised climate impact, highlighting growing progress across its global portfolio of climate investments. In its latest Sustainability Report, the company said its investments delivered 4.4 million tonnes of CO₂ equivalent between 2022 and 2025 while expanding sustainable land management, improving portfolio emissions transparency and creating jobs. The report reflects GenZero’s continued focus on commercially viable climate solutions across nature-based projects, clean technologies and carbon market infrastructure as investors increasingly demand measurable climate outcomes.

Key Overview

  • GenZero reported a 47% year-on-year increase in cumulative direct realised climate impact.
  • Cumulative direct realised climate impact reached 4.4 million tonnes of CO₂ equivalent (MtCO₂e) between 2022 and 2025.
  • The portfolio delivered 1.4 MtCO₂e of direct realised climate impact in 2025.
  • Combined direct and indirect realised climate impact reached 8.3 MtCO₂e in 2025.
  • Land under sustainable management expanded to more than 900,000 hectares.
  • More than 2,100 jobs were created across investee companies.
  • Scope 1 and 2 emissions reporting increased to 58% of the investment portfolio.

Temasek-owned climate investment platform GenZero has reported a 47% year-on-year increase in cumulative direct realised climate impact, reflecting the continued expansion of its portfolio across nature-based solutions, clean technologies and carbon market infrastructure.

In its second Sustainability Report, “Steadfast in Shifting Times,” GenZero said its investments generated 4.4 million tonnes of CO₂ equivalent (MtCO₂e) in cumulative direct realised climate impact on a stake-adjusted basis between calendar years 2022 and 2025. The company said 1.4 MtCO₂e was delivered during 2025 alone.

According to the report, the cumulative climate impact is equivalent to the annual emissions of approximately one million petrol-powered cars, or around 8% of Singapore’s total annual emissions.

On a combined direct and indirect basis, GenZero said its portfolio delivered 8.3 MtCO₂e of realised climate impact during 2025, with further improvements expected as investments continue to mature and scale.

The report builds on GenZero’s inaugural Sustainability Report released in 2024/2025, which outlined the firm’s investment strategy focused on generating measurable climate outcomes while delivering long-term financial returns.

Climate Impact Measurement Moves Beyond Commitments

GenZero’s latest report places increasing emphasis on measuring realised climate outcomes rather than reporting only capital deployed or sustainability commitments.

The company said its portfolio now comprises 26 closed investments across 26 countries, spanning nature-based solutions, technology-based decarbonisation projects and carbon ecosystem enablers.

Unlike many sustainability reports that primarily focus on emissions disclosure or governance frameworks, GenZero continues to quantify the climate impact generated by its investments while also measuring wider environmental and social outcomes.

Scaling Impact Across the Portfolio

The report highlights several measurable outcomes achieved across the investment portfolio during the financial year.

Land under sustainable management expanded to over 900,000 hectares, up from approximately 750,000 hectares at the end of 2024. According to GenZero, the managed land area is now nearly 13 times the land area of Singapore, driven by nature-based investments across multiple geographies.

Portfolio emissions transparency also improved significantly. The share of investee companies measuring Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions increased by 35 percentage points from FY2024, reaching 58% of the portfolio for the financial year ending 31 March 2025.

The company also reported that more than 2,100 jobs were created across investee companies through an expanded impact measurement framework that now captures environmental and social co-benefits alongside carbon metrics.

These broader indicators reflect GenZero’s view that climate investing should be assessed not only through emissions reductions, but also through sustainable land management, biodiversity protection, employment creation and stronger climate resilience.

Diversified Investment Strategy

GenZero continues to structure its investments around three core themes designed to accelerate decarbonisation while supporting commercially viable businesses.

The first focuses on nature-based solutions, including conservation, ecosystem restoration, biodiversity protection and sustainable land management.

The second targets technology-based solutions, supporting investments in areas such as sustainable fuels, low-carbon materials, carbon capture technologies and energy transition projects.

The third pillar consists of carbon ecosystem development, including investments that strengthen carbon market infrastructure, corporate decarbonisation and broader climate finance systems.

Together, these investment areas allow the platform to support both physical climate projects and the financial infrastructure required to accelerate global decarbonisation.

Commercial Viability Remains Central

GenZero Chief Executive Officer Frederick Teo said growing climate risks, supply chain disruptions and rising energy demand associated with artificial intelligence continue to increase the need for practical climate solutions.

“As climate investors, there are significant opportunities to deploy capital to support solutions that deliver actual value and impact.”

Teo said successful climate investing requires balancing environmental ambition with commercial viability.

“Climate action does not require dogmatic adherence to an ideological agenda. Rather, we need to engage in principled pragmatism, a willingness to back commercially-viable solutions that can deliver some climate impact even if they are imperfect.”

According to the company, scalable climate solutions must demonstrate measurable emissions reductions while remaining financially sustainable and capable of attracting long-term investment.

Outlook

GenZero’s latest Sustainability Report highlights the growing importance of measurable climate outcomes as investors increasingly seek evidence that climate finance is delivering tangible environmental and social benefits. By reporting realised climate impact alongside improvements in sustainable land management, emissions transparency and employment, the company is expanding how investment performance is assessed beyond traditional financial metrics. As climate finance continues to mature, greater emphasis is expected to be placed on quantifiable, stake-adjusted outcomes that demonstrate both commercial viability and real-world decarbonisation, particularly across nature-based solutions, clean technologies and carbon market infrastructure.
