Thursday was a bright but chilly autumn day across most of Europe, with sunshine in more than half of the capitals. The Mediterranean stayed mild, while the far north and east turned cold and windy. The average afternoon temperature across the 38 capitals was 10.5°C.
The day at a glance
Warmest: Valletta, Malta, reached 19.8°C, just ahead of Rome (19.6°C) and Tirana (19.2°C).
Coldest: Moscow recorded 4.2°C and felt like 0.3°C. Kyiv (5.7°C) and Helsinki (6.1°C) were the next coldest.
Windiest: Reykjavik, Iceland, had winds of 47.2 km/h with light rain, which made 9.0°C feel like 4.3°C. Tallinn (33.1 km/h) and Riga (30.6 km/h) were also blustery.
Most humid: Sarajevo (91%) and Reykjavik (89%).
Driest air: Madrid, at 30% under sunny skies.
Rain: Reykjavik was the only capital with steady rain (1.17 mm). Patchy rain was reported around Dublin, Athens, Vilnius, Minsk, Sofia, Sarajevo, Skopje and Moscow.

Region by region
Northern Europe was the windiest and most humid region, averaging 8.8°C. Most Nordic and Baltic capitals were sunny, though the wind made them feel colder: Tallinn was 8.1°C but felt like 3.9°C. London and Dublin were around 10°C.
Western Europe was calm and mostly sunny, with nearly every capital between 10°C and 11°C. Paris was the warmest at 12.6°C under overcast skies.
Southern Europe was the warmest region at 14.1°C on average. Valletta, Rome, Tirana and Lisbon all came close to 20°C, and Madrid was sunny and dry at 15.0°C. The Balkan inland was cooler and damper, with Sarajevo at 7.5°C.
Eastern Europe was the coldest region, averaging 8.0°C. Central capitals such as Budapest, Prague and Warsaw were sunny at around 10°C, but temperatures fell further east, to 5.7°C in Kyiv and 4.2°C in Moscow.
