In a groundbreaking development, two Kenyan startups, Zuri Health and izola, have been handpicked to participate in Google for Startups Growth Academy’s prestigious AI for Health program. This initiative aims to revolutionize patient care and enhance support for families with neurodivergent children through innovative AI-integrated solutions.

Zuri Health, renowned for its all-inclusive digital toolkit transforming patient care, and izola, which is dedicated to improving the lives of families with neurodivergent children via an AI-integrated therapeutics platform, are among the elite group of 30 startups selected from across Africa, Europe, and the Middle East to be part of this exclusive program.

Since the introduction of Google for Startups Accelerator programs in Africa in 2018, Google has steadfastly supported 106 startups hailing from 17 African countries. These startups have collectively secured an astounding $263 million in funding and have played a pivotal role in creating over 2,800 jobs.

Yuval Passov, the Head of Google for Startup and leader of the program, expressed his enthusiasm for Africa’s innovative spirit in the AI for Health domain. He stated, “Africa’s innovative spirit in the AI for Health domain is profoundly inspiring. These startups stand as a testament to the continent’s ability to develop global health solutions. We aim to stand alongside them, offering support and partnership as they strive to scale and disseminate their groundbreaking solutions.”

Notably, several other African startups have also joined this illustrious cohort. Eden Care from Rwanda is merging AI and digital health to reshape health insurance and corporate well-being, while mDoc from Nigeria is elevating personal health practices through virtual health mentorship. Pharmarun, another Nigerian startup, is unifying regional pharmacies with an innovative, patient-first platform.

Outside of Africa, selected startups are making waves as well. Biocam has introduced a groundbreaking capsule that scans the digestive system in real-time to identify potential threats. Mindstep offers an app with a laser focus on enhancing brain and mental health, while Rayscape provides radiologists with a digital assistant equipped with AI tools to aid in better decision-making.

This initiative is in alignment with Google’s broader vision to support startups and accelerate their growth. In August, Google announced the launch of the Google for Startups Accelerator: AI First, a 10-week equity-free accelerator program aimed at assisting African startups in leveraging artificial intelligence to address local challenges.
