Financial Freedom Calculator Kenya — Your Freedom Figure

Tell us your income, expenses, current portfolio and expected return. We’ll show your Financial Freedom Number — the amount you need so your investments fully cover your lifestyle.

Financial freedom arrives when your investment returns cover your monthly expenses, so you never need to touch the principal. The formula is Freedom Figure = (Monthly Expenses × 12) ÷ Annual Return. For example, if you spend KES 60,000/month and your investments earn 10%, you need KES 7,200,000 invested for your returns alone (KES 720,000/year) to match your expenses. Use the calculator below to discover yours.

How the Financial Freedom Formula Works

FF = (Expenses × 12) ÷ r
FF
Freedom Figure
E
Monthly Expenses
r
Annual Return

The freedom figure is the amount of invested capital where your returns alone cover your expenses. Once you hit it, you never need to withdraw from the principal — your money compounds forever. This is also known as the 4% rule in reverse: if you spend 4% of a portfolio per year, the portfolio must be 25× your annual expenses to last indefinitely (assuming a 4% real return).

Every month, your portfolio grows by two forces: your savings (income − expenses), and your investment returns on everything you’ve already put in. The calculator simulates this month-by-month until the portfolio reaches your freedom figure. Combine with the Compound Interest Calculator to see how contributions accelerate your timeline, or the Rule of 72 to see how fast your money doubles.

Financial Freedom Calculator — FAQ

Financial freedom is the point where your investment returns cover all your expenses. You no longer need to work for money — your money works for you. Unlike retirement at 60, financial freedom is age-independent: it happens whenever your portfolio reaches the required size, whether at 35 or 75.
