During her visit to Nairobi, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo underscored Kenya’s pivotal role in Africa’s digital landscape. Alongside the President’s Advisory Council on Doing Business in Africa, Raimondo unveiled strategic collaborations and commercial agreements aimed at harnessing Kenya’s digital prowess.

Highlighting Kenya’s status as a digital hub, Raimondo applauded President William Ruto’s efforts in spearheading the nation’s digital transformation. Discussions with Ruto emphasized the importance of aligning U.S.-Kenya digital policies and strategies.

At the AmCham Business Summit, Raimondo and Minister Eliud Owalo reaffirmed commitments to bolstering the digital economy and fostering innovation. Private sector pledges were made to enhance internet infrastructure across Kenya and the wider African continent.

Raimondo introduced two Department of Commerce initiatives: a partnership focusing on data protection and the African Women Digital Leaders Training program, aiming to empower the next generation of female tech leaders in Africa.

Meetings with Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Investment, Trade, and Industry Rebecca Miano explored avenues for strengthening bilateral commercial ties, particularly in green energy and clean technology sectors.

Raimondo’s diplomatic efforts in Kenya align with the Department of Commerce’s Africa strategy, laying the groundwork for enhanced collaboration and mutual prosperity between the U.S. and Kenya.
